Some of the interesting information that is mentioned in this book includes the following information: The lyrics of the song America The Beautiful was written while Katherine Lee Bates was at the top of Pikes Peak overlooking Colorado Springs back in 1893. What some people might not know is that the words weren't originally intended to be a song. The song lyrics were first published as a poem. It wasn't until 1910 that Katherine Lee Bates' poem became a song. Denver City was named after James Denver who was Governor of the Kansas Territory. In 1881, the city's name was shortened to Denver. It might surprise some people to learn that even in spite of its high elevation, Pikes Peak is actually not the highest mountain in Colorado. In fact, it only ranks at Number 31 in Colorado. The highest mountain in the state of Colorado which has an elevation of 14,433 feet is Mt. Elbert. Today, there are approximately 500 ghost towns in Colorado and 650 active towns in Colorado. The high number of ghost towns is the result of the mining industry. Denver ranks at Number 2 for cities in the United States with most beer breweries. With more than 158 breweries, Denver is surpassed only by Chicago, the Beer Capital of the United States.
